During a research leave in 2025, Sara is a Visiting Fellow of Clare Hall at the University of Cambridge in England.
For 2025-2027, Sara is an Arnhold Faculty Fellow at the University of California, Santa Barbara.
For 2024-2025, Sara was a Public Voices Fellow of The OpEd Project and the University of California, Santa Barbara.
For 2023-2024 Sara received a University of California Humanities Research Institute (UCHRI) Engaging Humanities grant in support of the Revisiting Island of the Blue Dolphins public humanities initiative. As a final component of this public humanities initiative, UCSB undergraduate students of INT 84CO in Winter 2024 prepared a related digital walking tour for younger audiences.
In summer 2019, Sara was a Stipendiat at the International Youth Library in Munich, Germany, where she pursued new research on childhood and Indigeneity in northern literature for children, from North America, Scandinavia, and Russia.
During her 2018-2019 research leave, Sara was a Guest Researcher in comparative literature at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics at Stockholm University in Stockholm, Sweden, where she was working on her book project on childhood in Nabokov's writings.
